Short answerA WhatsApp group is free and familiar, but it compresses photos (normal sends are resized to about 1,600 pixels), exposes everyone's phone number, and buries photos between messages. For keeping your wedding photos in full quality, a QR code gallery works better: no app, no numbers shared, originals kept.
Side by side
| FrameAmour | WhatsApp group | |
|---|---|---|
| Guests need | Their phone's camera | WhatsApp, and to join the group |
| Photo quality | Originals kept | Resized to ~1,600 px by default; HD is bigger but still compressed |
| Videos | Kept as uploaded | Compressed |
| Privacy | Guests only see the album; no phone numbers | Every member sees every member's number |
| Finding photos later | One album, one ZIP download | Scroll through hundreds of messages |
| You approve what appears | Optional review mode | No |
| Cost | $79 once | Free |
The quality problem, in plain words
When someone sends a photo in a normal WhatsApp chat, the app shrinks it to roughly 1,600 pixels on its longest side and re-compresses it, cutting the file size by around 80–90%. That's fine on a phone screen and disappointing in a photo book or on a big screen. The HD button helps, but it still isn't the original. Sending each photo "as a document" keeps the original, but nobody does that for 50 photos at a wedding.
Why FrameAmour is better for wedding photos
- The originals, not chat copies. Every photo and video is kept as your guests took it, ready for a photo book, prints or a big-screen slideshow.
- No phone numbers shared. Guests who don't know each other never see each other's numbers.
- Everything in one place. One gallery, sorted into albums by your wedding programme, instead of photos buried between hundreds of messages.
- You decide what appears. Turn on review mode to approve uploads and comments first.
- Every guest can take part. No need to be in the group, or even to use WhatsApp: guests just scan the QR code.
Use them together
Keep the WhatsApp group for what it's good at: quick updates and chatting. Then post your FrameAmour link in it the morning after, so everyone adds their photos and videos to the gallery in full quality. A WhatsApp group on its own is only enough if you're happy with a few compressed snapshots.
